Bats can be a nuisance to deal with and can put your family and friends at risk. Griffin Pest Management has a team of highly skilled bat exterminators that will ensure these flying mammals will not be an issue after our treatments are implemented. Our exterminators also use protective suits that cover them from the dirty environment to help keep your home clean after implementing exclusion tactics.
Bats are nocturnal creatures, and an entire colony of bats will fly out of your property each night in search for food. These trips are short, and bats will often times take multiple trips. Bats use echolocation to navigate their food source and produce soundwaves that are at frequencies that are above human hearing. These frequencies are called ultra -sound and these sound waves bounce off different objects in their environment and then return to create an image. Most bat colonies are primarily females, as the male bats prefer to be alone. These large colonies can be a huge issue for most property owners. Bat colonies are not only foul smelling from bat droppings and urine, but they’re also loud at dusk when they fly out in search of food. Bats have the potential to cause harmful diseases such as histoplasmosis from their excrement if the colony is large enough. This is then agitated as they come and go from the property which results in the owners breathing in the foul odor and harmful dust. Our trained exterminators will eliminate your bat issue and pinpoint the problem during your first initial inspection.
Griffin Pest Management offers an 100% satisfaction policy for all of our Griffin customers. Our goal is to properly eliminate the bats from your home, and if you’re not completely satisfied with our services, we will always find a solution and come back to your property if needed.
Griffin prides itself on using environmentally friendly products while treating your bat problem. We will tailor your plan to be as effective as possible and ensure your stress will be alleviated once we are done with the process. We are highly experienced and are also very aware of how vital bats are to our ecosystems. That being said, we will ensure we are properly removing the bats in a conscious way that avoids hurting them if possible.
Bat Exclusion
The first step in the exclusion process is to determine where the bats are coming from. Our trained bat exterminators will search any areas of your property where the bats are most likely hiding. The most common areas that bats inhabit are attics, rooflines, wall voids, sheds, and garages. Once we have identified where the bats are hiding, we seal access points to prevent bats from entering your property. Our experts also have the tools and skills to get into those hard-to-reach places where the bats are located. We also try our best to remove the bats while without harming them.
Bat Repellents
Most chemical bat repellants are made with ingredients similar to moth balls. The material releases a dust into the air when agitated that makes it difficult for bats to breathe, driving them to find a new location to call home. Griffin’s experienced bat removal specialists will help implement preventative strategies designed to minimize bat contact.
Big Brown Bats: These brown colored bats are medium sized, and their forelimbs and faces are darker in color compared to other bat species. These bats feed on insects at night, but also feed during the day on their shutters or eaves. This is one of the most common bats found in the western part of the United States.
Red Bats: These bats are covered in red fur and are also common in the western part of the United States. These insects also feed on insects and prefer to bury under leaves during the day.
California Myotis: These bats are small and have tan fur. You will most likely find them at dawn, feeding on insects and hiding in trees, and small crevices.
The best way to prevent bats from coming into your property is to seal off any holes or entry points where they could fly into. It is imperative to make sure you don’t already have bats living in those hard-to-reach spaces, so you don’t risk sealing off the entry and potentially trapping the bats. The best way to do this is to wait until dusk and observe your entry point to see if you see any bats flying out of them in search for food.
You can also prevent bats from coming into your property by using natural bat repellent sprays. These sprays are made from essential oils that bats do not like the smell off and will sometimes prevent the bugs from entering certain crevices or areas of entry.
Another option is to install bright lights in areas of entry points. Bats will not enjoy having a bright light disrupt their sleep schedule and will most likely leave the area.
Bats use echolocation (similar to radar) for flying and gathering their food. Their diet consists of insects. They have one young per year usually in the early late spring/early summer period.
They will form “maternal colonies” staying inside buildings until late summer when the young can fend for themselves. In the winter time they nest in caves or abandoned mine shafts. In some southern areas they may stay active all year.
They carry two diseases: rabies and histoplasmosis. Rabies in bats is no more common than any other animal and bats do not become aggressive when affected by rabies. They usually will just lie on the ground and it is rare that humans contract rabies from bats. Histoplasmosis is a disease contracted by humans when the dust from their droppings is inhaled into the lungs.
Your wildlife specialist will help you identify areas that may attract bats.
Griffin Pest management recommends allowing one of our specialized bat removal experts to come inspect your property for signs of bat activity. It is always best to hire a professional when dealing with a potentially harmful wild animal.
There are different ways to get rid of a bat, but the most common way is to use an exclusion method. Our exterminators are highly trained in bat control services and can get the job done quickly and efficiently.
Bats will fly inside your property in search of food, or to find shelter. Most of the time they fly in through points of entry that will be sealed during our exclusion treatment.
